Arnold Finn, Global Dock’s Managing Partner, holds a Master’s Degree in Coastal Engineering and his professional specialization over the years has been designing foundations for floating structures, including floating dock systems.
The Blue-Dock ™ system has evolved from this experience and is the prototype foundation for some very unique projects. |
THE GOLDEN DREAM AT DISNEY'S EPCOT CENTERThe Golden Dream at Disney’s EPCOT Center is an historically accurate representation of an American Rum Runner Sloop, circa 1776. While she gives the appearance of being an actual working sloop, the Golden Dream in reality is simply an elaborate façade on a floating dock.
The idea was to create the shell of an actual boat, using lighter, cheaper and more durable materials than the real thing. The engineering concept stemmed from Arnold’s experience with all types of floating structures, especially docks and marinas, as well as theme park structures. The entire process, from bid to launch, took only three months.

The engineering and design was by Arnold Finn. Custom designed Blue-Dock™ flotation units provide the floating foundation for the Golden Dream at Disney’s EPCOT park in Orlando.
The sloop’s structure is composed of aluminum, plastics and styrofoam carvings. There is no wood or steel on the sloop. The Blue-Dock™ custom floats supporting the sloop draft approximately eight inches of water.
